Paper Tourneys 101

Ack! The system is down, I want to do a paper tourney, what do I do? Look familiar? The following will help you run a single-elimination tournament and will help get your tourney reported as quickly as possible by your TD Manager.

  1. The single most important thing is getting a set of brackets with the BYES in the correct places.  This will allow your TD Mgr to report the tourney through the system and have the tournament end up on the calendar like any other.  So, start with this link:

    Link to paper tournament brackets

Simply enter the number of players and push "go".  Print this out if possible, if not, then draw it on paper.

The brackets look a bit weird because the byes aren't actually shown as byes.  The short rd 1 brackets are actually Round 1, and the longer brackets are actually players with byes waiting on Round 2.
  2. You can determine the pairings a few different ways:
    1. look up the player's ratings and seed them as the system would - ugh, too much work OR
    2. seed them alphabetically
    3. draw names from a hat and seed them randomly
    4. the order they arrive for the tourney
  3. Put the players names on the brackets you printed or made.
  4. Announce the pairings and away you go!
  5. Ok.. time warp to when the tourney is over and it's time to report it all.  If the tournaments are to be reported quickly to the system, it is vital that the following is included and correct.  Please list the following:

    1. TD Name

    2. Ladder

    3. Tourney #
NOTE:  Do NOT delete your tournament.

If there is no tourney currently on the system, then as soon as you are able, please make one for the date and time the tournament was held with the proper ladderbux and format.

    4. Match results:

Please list out the results from each round as follows:

Note:  If it is a 2-player game on a single's ladder, then match reports are as follows:

      Round1:
      Player 1 D Player 1
      Player 2 D Player 1
      Player 1 D Player 2
      Player 2 D Player 2

If you use team names, you must first list who is on each team.

Email the results!  Now go rest :-)
